Start by locating the actual home

The building, its entrance and a north reference need to be identifiable. For an apartment, include the building entrance, your unit entrance, floor level and main outlook. A satellite view and photographs answer different questions: the first shows plan relationships; the second helps explain what is visible at the home.

Curving water is not one automatic answer

Yu Dai Huan Yao, often described as a “jade belt around the waist,” refers to a wrapping relationship in traditional form interpretation. Fan Gong, often described as a “reverse bow,” refers to an outward-bending relationship. A visible curve alone does not establish either interpretation for a specific dwelling. Its position relative to the home, distance, orientation and intervening features must be considered.

A road is not automatically a river

Some traditional approaches compare the movement and shape of roads with water. The analogy does not make every road equivalent to a river. The assessment should identify the feature that actually exists and explain the relationship being interpreted.

Buildings and the outlook

Nearby buildings, the available space at an entrance and the main outlook can contribute to an external-form reading. Photographs may reveal a close wall or elevated road that a simple map does not convey well. A remote review can only assess the information available; it is not a site survey.

Bring the inside and outside together

An external observation should affect a real recommendation or explain a constraint. A preferred internal area may still need a practical adjustment because of its immediate surroundings. Equally, moving a decorative item inside cannot change the course of a river outside.

What the $99 review adds

The Home & Surroundings Review includes the full interior review, plus an annotated environment diagram and a combined reading. Provide a location or map, a north reference and photographs of the entrance and main views. It does not replace checks for flooding, noise, planning restrictions or building condition.

Make it relevant to your home.
